What are the Differences Between LED Neon Lights and Traditional Neon Lights?

2025-06-12

LED neon lights are a modern decorative lighting device that uses light-emitting diode technology. It is characterized by orderly arrangement of micro LED lamp beads in flexible light strips, and externally wrapped with silicone or plastic sleeves to simulate the traditional neon light morphology.

Traditional neon lights rely on inert gas filled inside the glass tube to produce glow discharge under the excitation of high-voltage electric fields. Its core structure is a sealed glass tube bent by hand, with metal electrodes encapsulated at both ends, and it needs to be equipped with a high-voltage transformer to work. The physical properties of glass determine its inherent brittleness and morphological limitations.

The fundamental difference between the two is first reflected in energy efficiency and safety. The operating voltage of LED neon lights is significantly lower than the high-voltage environment required by traditional neon lights, reducing electrical risks from the source. The solid-state luminous characteristics make it consume less energy at the same brightness, and there is no obvious temperature rise on the surface of the lamp body. The high-voltage working mode of traditional neon lights has a higher risk of breakdown, and glass breakage may cause inert gas leakage.

LEDneon lights have a much longer service life of solid-state light sources, and the flexible lamp body is highly impact-resistant. Local damage only requires the replacement of the corresponding part. The glass tubes of traditional neon lamps are prone to cracking due to vibration or sudden temperature changes, and the electrodes will gradually age and darken over time. The maintenance process is complicated and requires professional technicians to refill the inert gas in a vacuum environment.
